Assistant Medical Technician

Duties:Assist Veterinarian in surgery, including prepping of animals, assisting with surgery and after care. Assist in examining animals. Provide all medical hold animals with exercise, attention, love, feeding, hygiene, and grooming requirements. Perform routine medical procedures (vaccines, fecal exams, medication administration, etc.) in a timely fashion. Ensure proper cleaning, wrapping and autoclaving of surgical packs. Maintain medical paperwork and follow up as required. Perform weekly inventory of supplies and medication and prepare and submit purchase orders in time to ensure that we do not run of any supplies. Do weekly health checks of all available and unavailable animals and record on their kennel log. Keep exam room and surgery rooms clean and organized. Responsible for management of special care cases. Follow safety and sanitation policies throughout facility in order to maintain HWAC standards of excellence. Maintain compliance with HWAC policies and procedures. Participate in Center activities and events as required. Complete other assignments as required. Represent HWAC standards of professionalism.
Qualifications:Some experience providing medical and surgical assistance preferred. Some animal handling experience in a kennel environment preferred. Must have customer service skills and experience. Able to safely lift up to 55 lbs. unassisted. Able to control strong and unruly dogs, as well as handle difficult cats. Must have good written and verbal communication skills. Must have good prioritizing and problem solving skills. Be capable of working and participating in a team as well as a self-directed environment. Ability to work closely with animal hair/dander. Must possess professionalism, courtesy, tact, and sound judgment. Able to work in both a team and self-directed environment. Must have good prioritizing and problem solving skills. Ability to work closely with animal hair/dander a must.

As this position may require occasional driving duties, employee must possess a valid Driverís License. Employee must complete a Driver Information Form and provide a recent DMV Driving Record Report to be kept on file, as well as proof of insurance.
