Registered Veterinary Technician

Duties:Assist veterinarian in surgery, including anesthesia induction, intubation, prepping of animals, assisting during surgery, extubation, and monitoring recovery. Must possess knowledge of anesthesia side effects and equipment. Perform dental cleanings and extractions as directed by the veterinarian. Assist veterinarian in examining animals and participate during intakes. Must be able to go offsite and perform assigned offsite duties, primarily routine medical procedures and examinations related to offsite animal intakes, enforcing our medical protocols and screening processes with our intake partners, including overnight offsite trips,. Perform routine medical procedures such as vaccines, fecal exams, medication administration, catheter placement, etc. Provide all medical hold animals with exercise, attention, love, feeding, hygiene, and grooming requirements. Monitor sick/injured animals and communicate findings with veterinarian. Maintain accurate medical records and follow up as required. Radiograph animals as directed by the veterinarian and ensure that the radiographs are of diagnostic quality. Ensure proper cleaning, wrapping, and autoclaving of surgical packs. Ensure that all areas of the medical department are properly cleaned, maintained, and stocked. Perform weekly inventory of supplies and medication and prepare and submit purchase orders in time to ensure that we do not run of any supplies in the absence of the Animal Health Manager. Responsible for management of special care cases. Follow safety and sanitation policies throughout the facility in order to maintain Center standards of excellence.

Qualifications:POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The following is not intended to be a comprehensive list of the essential functions of this position, but rather a general description of some of the requirements necessary to carry out the duties and responsibilities of this position. The employee must be able to perform the following tasks, among others:

Must have a current California RVT license. Must have at least 6 months hands on experience in a veterinary environment other than schooling and/or training experience. Must possess the knowledge required of a registered veterinary technician with regards to radiography, surgery, anesthesia, dentistry, pharmacology, laboratory, and medicine as it pertains to the field of small animal medicine. Must be able to properly operate an x-ray machine and determine that the radiographs are of a diagnostic quality. Must possess knowledge of anesthesia and be able to operate an anesthesia machine. Must possess knowledge of small animal husbandry and restraint. Must be able to work in a fast paced, continuously changing environment. Must be able to follow written and oral veterinarian orders without direct supervision. Must be able to safely lift objects weighing up to 55 lbs without assistance. Must be able to safely lift objects weighing up to 100 lbs. with assistance.

Employee must demonstrate regular and consistent attendance and punctuality.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION:
When a physical requirement is described as rarely, it means less than 5% of the shift is spent in this activity; occasionally means 6% - 33% of the shift is spent in this activity; frequently means 34% - 66 % of the shift is spent in this activity; continuously means 67% or more time during a shift is spent in this activity.

Though work assignments may vary from day to day, this position typically requires: walking or standing continuously; the ability to lift, carry, push and/or pull up to 55 lbs. frequently and 100 lbs. occasionally. The position also requires the ability to reach above shoulder level and below continuously.

WORK CONDITIONS:
80 % of this job is conducted indoors under normal veterinary office conditions and 20% is conducted outdoors.
